Mal Pais & Santa Teresa have quite a few options when it comes to practicing your poses, or for beginners to get in touch with their inner yogi.
Depending where you are staying in town and of course if you have a particular style of yoga you prefer there are numerous yoga studios throughout town. Each studio offers something different in regards to teachers, locations and timing. Below are our top 4 yoga studios for practicing during your vacation.
Hands-down one of the most beautiful yoga studios in the area, if not in the world, is located at the stunning Florblanca Resort. Their open-air beachfront yoga dojo is an ideal place to get your body balanced during your trip. Open to the public, they offer daily classes everyday except Sunday, taught by Stefano Allergi. Stefano has been mastering his craft for over ten years and has studied worldwide with some of the most reputable yoga Masters. He offers classes in Vinyasa flow Monday through Saturday. The drop-in cost for a class is $13 USD, which includes the mat, straps and blocks during the class.
Pranamar Oceanfront Villas & Yoga Retreat
Year round this gorgeous beachfront hotel offers a variety of all-inclusive yoga retreats to indulge in. However if you would prefer to go “a la carte” they also offer daily classes for walk-in students. Their resident yoga teacher, Nancy Goodfellow, typically teaches the classes however throughout the year Pranamar also offers workshops & classes with international certified teachers. Their Balinese inspired yoga shala is the perfect setting to get relaxed and practice the skill. With the sea breeze and ocean waves crashing in the background Pranamar yoga is sure to put you in a “zen” mood. Their classes change weekly so it is best to check their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/PranamarYoga) for the current schedule. They offer a variety of styles including Shakti Flow, Detox Flow, Slow Flow & Vinyasa Flow.
Walk-ins are $13 USD and they offer packages for 5 classes $50 USD or unlimited classes for $100 USD
Horizon Hotel & Yoga Center
Alternatively to practicing yoga beachfront there is also the wonderful Horizon Hotel & Yoga Center located just above the main road in Santa Teresa in the Costa Rican jungle. With breathtaking ocean views and cool mountain breezes, Horizon is a popular spot for all yogis. They offer various styles of yoga including Yoga Flow, Vinyasa Flow and even a sunset yoga session typically three days a week. Despite their yoga deck being a bit smaller than most the previously mentioned hotels, the instructors at Horizon are just as talented and the classes just as enjoyable. Just be sure to get there a few minutes early to secure your spot, their classes tend to fill up quickly! Also be sure to check out their “tea house” just underneath the deck, a perfect place to enjoy a smoothie after your session & check out the waves.
Mon – Sat classes at 9 a.m. Tues, Thurs & Sun – Sunset session at 5 p.m. Walk-ins $12 USD and they offer packages for 4 classes $40 USD, 8 classes $60 USD and 15 classes for $100 USD
Hotel Tropico Latino
Another wonderful place for mastering your craft is the centrally located Hotel Tropico Latino. This beachfront hotel in Santa Teresa offers a variety of classes daily in their shaded all wood yoga deck. Enjoy their luscious gardens and soothing ocean sounds during your experience. All their instructors are certified and specialize in different styles of teachings. These styles include Hatha Yoga, Karma Yoga, Yin Yoga & Vira Yoga. In addition to their daily classes, they also have a sunset yoga everyday at 4pm.
Mon – Sun – Yoga at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Walk-ins $14 USD and they offer packages of 4 classes for $44 USD or $64 USD for 8 classes. (The packages only apply to certain classes.)
These are only 4 studios we choose to highlight but keep in mind there are other options in town should you need them. In addition to other yoga studios you can also arrange for private sessions or if you prefer take your own mat to the beach and practice between the palm trees!
